Saddiq Washington, 22, of Darby, has been charged with first and third-degree murder, among other offenses in the death of 54-year-old King Hua, according to the Delaware County District Attorney's Office.
Washington had a permit to carry the 9mm pistol that killed Hua, who was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head in his Toyota Camry on State Road in Springfield around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, according to a criminal complaint.
Investigators say his mom was behind the wheel of the Chevrolet Equinox when Washington opened fire. No charges have been filed against her.
Hua was with his wife in their white car when Washington's mom passed them on the shoulder, Springfield police said.
That car stopped and Washington got out of the car and fired at Hua's vehicle, according to police. The bullets went through the windshield and struck Hua.
Washington and his mom then fled the scene.
Hua was taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
Investigators used the license plate number to track down the pair, court records show.
Washington was remanded to county jail with bail denied.
